Dear friends! With great pleasure I welcome the athletes, coaches, officials, guests and the fans of our beautiful sport - figure skating - at ISU European Championships 2018 in Moscow.
During more than a 100-year history of the European Figure Skating Championships, the ISU had granted the rights to host four of them to Russia. Saint Petersburg hosted the first European Championships in 1911. The second Championships was held in Moscow in 1965. This event had sparked significant interest in figure skating throughout the country and had influenced its developments in Russia. Two more European Figure Skating Championships were held in Leningrad (former Saint Petersburg) in 1970 and 1990 respectfully. Now, more than 50 years later, the ISU European Figure Skating Championships returns to Moscow. The most prestigious figure skating even on the European continent, hosting top European athletes, will be held in the capital of Russia on January 16-21, 2018.
The Championships will be held at the Ice Arena "Megasport". This venue is well-known to both Russian and foreign participants and more so after it became the host arena of the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in 2011, which was organized in the shortest time possible and at the highest level.
What makes this ISU European Figure Skating Championships special is the fact that it is held just weeks before the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, which officially open on February 9, 2018. Participation of the best European athletes who will go on to compete at Pyeongchang adds to the intrigue. That is why we are certain that the ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2018 in Moscow will stir interest among the dedicated fans, general spectators and mass media all over the world.
